The Schielhau

The Schielhau is a very versatile Oberhau and is struck with the short edge. The trajectory of the stroke is a transition between the guards vom Tag and Pflug. Because of this movement the hands are protected against counter-attacks and the point can be directed very fast and accurately towards the opponent - in case it hasn't hit already.

The Schielhau is one of the four displacements/Versetzen and breaks the guard Pflug. Since the guards are no static positions one doesn't wait until the opponent has reached his guard position, of course, but one attacks before.

The Schielhau can be applied against all Oberhaue or Unterhaue.

For reasons of clarity the techniques are shown from both sides.

The Schielhau, Version 1

Light begins with a rather flat Oberhau from the right side.

While Light's stroke is on its way, Dark starts his counter, the Schielhau. He twists the wrists so that the short edge is directed to Light's blade. Simultaneously, he takes a wide step off-line to the right.

Dark now controls Light's blade and can reach his opponent's face at the same time.

In detail: Dark's sword has hit the flat of Light's blade with the short edge, by this taking it off the course.

The completed Schielhau. On the left side from Dark's point of view, on the right side from Light's.

The Schielhau, Version 2

The same situation as before: But this time Green begins with a steeper Oberhau from the right side.

Green's stroke is on its way and Dark executes his Schielhau. The difference to version 1 is that he keeps his hands higher in order to control the weak of Green's sword with his own strong.

A minor movement upwards with the left hand flings Dark's point into Green's throat.
