You shall stretch the Winker,
and thereby fool the masters.
Learn to wave twice,
to the right from the left.

Here the Master speaks of the sixth piece which is called Winker and which is one of the main pieces. It works well against those free fencers who displace readily. It is a new strike in the Messer and it is uncommon and good. If you want to execute it, do the following. Stand with your left foot in front and hold your Messer at your right shoulder. If he stands in the guard Luginsland, strike long at him with the true edge and an outstretched arm from your right shoulder. Wind against his Messer during the blow and strike at his head with the short edge. Indes lower your Messer in front of your body and Indes let it go through to you left side with a lowered point. Strike at his head on his right side with the short edge.

Hold your Messer at your left side with the point towards the earth and the thumb lying on the Messer or stand in the guard Schrankhut with the right foot in front. If he stands in the guard Luginsland then, strike at his right side from the inside with the short edge. Indes let your Messer go through, lower the point and lift your Messer onto his left side. Thereby you have the piece twice from both sides.

Wind left at hitting,
strike right and long if you want to fool him.

This you shall understand: If he stands against you in the guard Luginsland, strike an Oberhau from your right shoulder at his left side with a long and outstretched arm. Watch out while hitting at the head, Indes wind against his Messer letting the short edge face down, don't complete the strike but drop the point and let the Messer go through to your left side. Strike at his head with the short edge. Indes turn your Messer towards you and strike at his head on the same side with the true edge. Indes continue as you feel appropriate. This piece works on both sides.

When you strike at his head on his right side with the true edge, Indes wind your Messer towards you, raise your arm and thrust at his face on his right side. Indes wind to his right side and thrust at his face on his right side again.

If you want to hit the masters,
the Winker shall bring you joy.
What comes twisted or badly
is just as right to the Winker.

Here the Master speaks about the piece named Winker. [Rep.v.] You shall understand that this piece is used rightly against any twisted or bad displacements, this is were the piece has it's purpose. If he displaces twisted, strike a free Oberhau from your right shoulder onto his Messer. Turn your Messer during the strike an instant before it hits the other. Raise your arm and hit him on the head with the short edge.

If you missed him with this explained strike, let your point go to your left side and thrust at his neck or chest or do an Abnehmen with your Messer, as you certainly know.
