126v

Go through the openings,
learn to find strike, thrust and cut.
These pieces you shall think of,
to harm the masters with them.

Here the Master explains how you shall do Durchgehen in Messer fencing. The Durchgehen is a very good technique with the Messer and the sword. If you stand near or far, you can use it with the thrust, strike or cut. When you come together in the Zufechten and you want to do Durchgehen, strike a straight Oberhau from your right shoulder at his left side. Wind the blunt edge against his Messer before you hit, lower the point, go through to his right side between him and you and strike at his head.

When he comes to you in the Zufechten, strike a strong Oberhau at his head on his left side. Indes wind the blunt edge against his Messer and let the point go low. Go through to his right side between him and you, turn your Messer to let the blunt edge face down and thrust high at his face.

When you have done the thrust at his [original text: “your”] right side, you can Indes go through again and thrust at his left side.

Strike an Oberhau to his left side as before, go through again and thrust at his face on his right side. Indes let the Messer go high above your head, letting the thumb rest on the downside flat. When you come to the central line above your head, strike at his head on his right side again, cut strongly over his arms, use the Duplieren or strike Indes at his lower openings. top
