Learn the Nachreißen,
let the edge face the weapon.
learn to do it twice,
accumulate the arts.

Here the Master speaks of the ninth piece and chapter which is the Nachreißen. It is versatile and manifold and is to be executed with care against those free fencers who fence with long straight strikes and who don't think much of the right arts of the Messer, who strike amiss, who aim at the waists and the sides and who back away from the man. Do the Nachreißen like this. When you come to the man in the Zufechten, set your left foot in front, stand in the guard Luginsland and be mindful of what he fences against you. If he strikes at you from above and from his right shoulder, take care that he does not reach you with the strike. Be aware, and when he lets his Messer go to the ground in the strike, jump forward with your right foot and strike at his upper right opening before he comes up again with his Messer.

Another piece. When his strike misses, you strike after him, he pulls up with the Messer instantly and displaces, then stay with the true edge strongly on his Messer. If he lifts the Messer up, then jump with your left foot behind his right and strike at his head on his right side. Indes do whatever you want and be aware if he is yielding or hard in the bind. This is why you shall know about feeling with the Messer.

Another piece. If his strike misses in front of you, you do a following strike, bind against his Messer on his left side and he strikes around to your right side with an Entrüsthau from the displacement, Indes get beneath his Messer with an Entrüsthau in front of you at his neck on his left side. Or use the cut or let your hilt go up and drop your point into his face or into his chest. Push him backwards and go for the openings.

Another piece. Stand in the guard Pastei. Stand with your left foot in front. When he aims to strike at your Messer from his right side, Indes evade the strike with your Messer towards his right side and thrust above his Messer with an outstretched arm. Follow after with the right leg. If he is agile and displaces the thrust, Indes let your outstretched arm go up nimbly and wind the point strongly to the face along his Messer.
